Ahhh, Sundays. They’re made for just lounging around. Sunday morning, I woke up and was craving an adventure and coffee of course. After attempting another cookie recipe at 8 am, (which was a success!) I decided to make my way down to Niagara on the Lake to visit Willow Cakes and Pastries.
The town of Niagara on the Lake is absolutely magical, especially the downtown area. It makes me feel like I’m starring in one of those cheesy Hallmark movies. If you find yourself on the corner of Mary Street, you have to check out Willow Cakes and Pastries.
Let’s Explore Willow Cakes and Pastries
Willow Cakes has been on my bucket list for a while. I made a quick stop back in 2022 to grab a few things, but unfortunately, their espresso machine wasn’t working at the time. Naturally, I had to go back to take photos and taste this sweet nectar of the gods (coffee).
The Goods
There’s a front door and a side door, basically like a choose-your-own adventure. Although, the outcome will probably be the same. As soon as you walk in, scents of coffee and freshly baked treats fill the air. I had such a hard time choosing what to get. They had beautiful displays filled with cookies, bars, squares, cakes, and savory lunch items. If you’re looking for a sweet gift, they also have cookies in a bundle for sale by the side entrance. I didn’t see what flavours were available, but there are also bread loaves for sale.
After some time, I ended up settling for a latte and the ginger molasses cookie. I paid just under $6 for my latte and cookie, which I find very reasonable considering it’s a local café. The cookie had a crunchy outer layer, but was super soft throughout. My latte was all that creamy, milky, delicious goodness that you could want.
The only drawback I found is that the drink selection is simple. If you want a fancy vanilla latte with whipped cream and all the fixins, you won’t find that here. You can order a basic coffee, tea, latte, cappuccino, etc.
It was busy, but not overly busy. Then again, it’s Sunday in a tourist area, so it’s to be expected. The staff is pretty quick when it comes to serving customers and preparing orders.
If you plan to stay and enjoy your goodies, there are quite a few seats available by the window and further towards the back of the shop. It’s your typical cute, cozy, cafe.
My Overall Thoughts
Overall, Willow Cakes and Pastries is worth the visit if you’re in the area. They have a nice selection of goodies, and you can pre-order stunning cakes for your next event or celebration. As I said before, the only drawback is the limited drink selection.
