Summer has been loaded with tons of goodies and coffee trips. This equals a very happy Kitchen Wizard. Today’s foodie adventure is to The Pie Plate Bakery Cafe in Virgil.
It all started with a mission. I’ve had a small handful of recurring dreams that I’ve moved to Oklahoma. Over time, this became intertwined with my constant cravings for a good slice of pecan pie, and I mean a good one. It was getting to the point where I borderline wanted to hunt down my passport and just drive down to the Sooner State myself.
Anyways, I was thinking back to this super cozy spot I found back in 2016ish. A year that wasn’t too long ago. I figured I should head that way again and get my fix of this delectable, scrumptious, gooey goodness. Since I had plans with the fam jam, we also needed to stock up on our afternoon Kaffee und Kuchen goods.

Friday Morning Madness
It’s August 1. New month, new era of my life, it’s go time. I couldn’t sleep the night before until 2:30 am. Fast forward to 6:30 am, and I’m already getting ready to go. It’s Canada, so we have one day of extreme humidity and the next day is freezing. I consulted the handy dandy weather app on my phone, and it said it’s 12 °C. Oh well. As I put on my finest skinny jeans and a long-sleeved black shirt, I get ready to embark on an adventure. Let’s lace up the Vans and let’s go, baby. As I venture outside, I notice it’s a bit more toasty than 12 °C, but I decide to head out anyway.
Was this a bad choice? Yes, yes, it was. The more I drive, the more I’m blasting the AC. It’s a hot one today, and I’m partially drenched in sweat and partially drenched in tears because my weather app has failed me.
A Side Note on Shoes
The thing about me is that once my shoes are laced up, there’s no going back. Seriously. I went on an afternoon hike a week ago, and I laced up my shoes. As I’m about to leave, I notice my freshly filled-up water bottle just sitting in the living room taunting me. “Come get me,” it says. I mutter to myself “ah f*ck”, but go out the door anyway. Aint nobody got time for redoing the shoes.
That’s also the day I realized the guys in Alpha Wolf are right, it Sucks 2 Suck. Here I am trying to embrace my inner hippie by being at one with nature while I’m panting up and down this treacherous terrain with severe dry mouth. That being said, that was also the day I found out the dollar store apparently locks up their drinks now. Let me tell you, being a grown adult asking another adult for permission to get a drink made me feel like a kid trying to get something out of grandma’s special cabinet. It was weird, needless to say.
Back to The Pie Plate
Anyways, after an intense driving session, I arrived at The Pie Plate. I haven’t been here in years, and the location has changed since I last went. The parking lot was full, and it was pretty bustling. It’s also Friday, so that’s understandable.
That being said, I didn’t take any photos of the interior, just so I didn’t have random people in the pictures. Plus, I wouldn’t want to post anyone without their permission. You can check out the Pie Plate online, though, to satisfy your curiosity and check out the magic that happens inside.
Let’s Venture Inside
Upon entering, I scoped out the display case and put on my pecan pie vision. You won’t believe this. Aside from a few lonesome pies, the shelf was cleared out. At that moment, it clicked. Not only is it Friday, but it’s also a long weekend. FML. The summer days all blended together, and now I met my demise. My heart was crushed and shattered.

I’m also a cherry girl through and through, so I set my heart on the cherry tart. It may not have been a Pecan Pie, but it still hit the spot. It was a warm, flaky crust with cherry pie filling and oats decorated on top.
The latte was also crafted to perfection. It was silky smooth, and it didn’t take me long to finish it because of how delicious it was. They also have a shelf with shakers, so you can add cinnamon and cocoa to their creations if you want. Cinnamon is always my favourite choice sprinkled on one of these badboys. I highly recommend coming here if you need a coffee and baked good fix.

So now I’m debating taking that Oklahoma trip after all. I deserve the most top-tier, top-shelf pie, with all the bells and whistles, served on a silver platter. And yes, I do plan to eat the entire thing in one sitting. See ya’ll south of the border!

Amazing I’m going to have to check that place out. Thank you Lisa.
Be safe out there Lisa. Have a great time!
