Welcome to the second edition of the Daily Happenings at Canuck Kitchen. Here’s what’s been going on in the Kitchen Wizard’s world.
Tim Horton’s Dream Cookie
To kick off summer, Tim Hortons introduced three new Dream Cookies to their lineup. Are these cookies that I dream about? Let’s find out.
For flavour varieties, you can choose from M&M, Rocky Road, or Reese’s Chocolate. My original goal was to try all three, but one already cost $2.29, so I figured it was best I only try one of them. (Today’s episode of I’m Poor is brought to you by Canadian Inflation.)
Although the Rocky Road was pretty tempting, I ended up going with the M&M cookie. I loved the size of it. It was a pretty big cookie and very chewy. I also really liked how white chocolate chips were mixed in. It added a nice flavour note.
Overall, they were awesome, but I’m not sure if they’re really worth the price. Regular cookies at Tim Horton’s go for $1.49 so a Dream Cookie is almost $1 more. At the same time, I also understand that it’s a limited-time promotion, so I guess the price hike can be justified…kinda. If you don’t feel like paying that much for a cookie, these seem pretty easy to craft up in the kitchen.
4 Ingredient Pesto Pasta
Ok, there are a few more ingredients if you include the spices.
I’m a huge fan of meals that are quick, easy, and require minimal ingredients. This simple dinner, or lunch, can easily be made with noodles, broccoli, chicken, and store-bought pesto. If you’re vegan or lactose intolerant, note that store-bought pesto usually contains dairy.
I start by chopping the broccoli and chicken. It’s always a good idea to prep everything before you get started. Once everything is ready to go, I preheat the oven to 400F. Once the oven has reached 400F, I put in the broccoli and let it cook for 10 minutes. I usually put it in a glass baking dish and coat the broccoli with avocado oil and a bit of salt.
Meanwhile, Heat a large skillet on medium to high heat with avocado oil. Add chicken and fry for a few minutes. Bring heat down to medium and continue to cook chicken until it’s no longer pink in the middle. I season my chicken with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the noodles, cook until al dente, and drain. I used gluten free noodles, but any will work just fine.
Once everything has cooked, I mix it in the skillet with the chicken and then add the jar of pesto.
Keep in mind that less is more when it comes to pesto. Don’t dump the entire jar in at once. I add one teaspoon at a time and keep tasting it until it’s the flavour I want.
German Goodies
Hanuta tastes like my childhood. The original Hanuta is like a wafer sandwich with a chocolate hazelnut filling. To change things up a bit, they created these chocolate-covered bars. WOW! They are incredible. They are the perfect blend of delicious chocolate, a creamy hazelnut filling, and some delectable crunchy wafer bits. If you ever find yourself in Germany, you have to hit up a grocery store and spend your life savings on chocolate and goodies. You won’t regret it. Trust me.
