Ahhh, coffee. Some of us like to keep it simple, while some of us put half of the cupboards into our mugs. The Kitchen Wizards have conjured up a list of things you can throw into your delicious cup of Joe. Mix and match to your heart’s and soul’s desire… if you have one.
What Can I Stick Into My Coffee?
This is the award-winning question that will be answered in this post. Believe it or not, there are actually so many options beyond just cream and sugar. Experiment with different combinations and come up with your own master potions.
Quality
Before we start crafting up some magic, I’d just like to lay out a few tips for getting the best out of your brew.
- Invest in a good-quality coffee maker
I love the French Press method, but I also own a Keurig for the days I’m feeling lazy. - Clean your coffee maker of choice on a regular basis
This will help keep your liquid goodness tasting fresh. - Grind your own beans
I know a lot of us are busy, so this isn’t always possible. The best cup of Joe is made with high-quality beans that you’ve ground yourself. If you don’t have a grinder or choose to skip this step, you can still purchase quality ground coffee. Please, no instant coffee though. Yuck. It seriously tastes like sewage. - Don’t use expired coffee
Keep an eye on those best before dates. While expired coffee might not make you sick, the taste will definitely be off-putting.
The Ultimate List of Potion Ingredients
In a previous post, we explored some different options to reduce our sugar intake. For those who are new to the kitchen craft, I’ve compiled a list of items that you can add to your coffee. Some options are healthier than others.
For this post, I’ve just included all the list items as graphics since there’s no need for detailed explanations. You can save these to your phone or share them on social media.
Some of my favourite combinations are: brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract and cinnamon, and maple syrup with a dash of cocoa.
Coffee = Dessert
I decided to have this as a separate category. You can combine coffee and food and it’s absolutely magical.
Eiskaffee
For those who don’t know me personally, my family grew up in Germany and I have a lot of German influences. When I found out about “Eiskaffee”, I was blown away. My two favourite things are coffee and dessert, and these crafty Germans managed to stick it all together.
Eiskaffee is ice cream dunked into coffee, simply put. You can also add toppings like whipped cream, chocolate shavings, etc.
I highly recommend everyone try this magical creation at least once in their lifetime.
Café Affogato
This is similar to the German Eiskaffee, except Italian style! This creamy and delicious Italian dessert is espresso topped with vanilla ice cream or gelato.
If you love experimentation in the kitchen, this is quite easy to make at home.
Chocolate and Donuts
Dunking donuts in coffee is a classic. My personal favourite is a sour cream glazed donut dunked into a delectable latte.
As for the chocolate, you can break off a small piece and dunk it in for a hint of flavour. My favourite is drowning the chocolate in coffee so it melts. If you choose the latter, you’ll end up with a delicious homemade mocha. Experiment with different types and brands of chocolates!
Happy Brewin!
Over time, you’ll be able to figure out what flavour combinations work best for you and your tastebuds. The quality of your coffee will also depend on how well your end product will be too. You can look at some recipes online or even check out some eccentric cafes for inspiration.
