Please Note: My adventure in St. Kitts took place at the beginning of February 2019. This post has been revamped and revised to look awesome. For more escapades, check out our “Lifestyle” section.
Day 12: Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis
Once the sun started peaking up over the clear waters, our ship arrived at the alluring port of Basseterre in St. Kitts and Nevis. Luckily, by this point, I was finally starting to get my voice back. Obviously, it waits until the end of the vacation.
Since we had phenomenal luck the previous day, we decided to take one of the road taxis again. Our driver, Kenrick, gathered a small group of us in his vehicle. Off we went for more adventures!
Discovering the Island
Our first stop was at a batik shop. As an artist myself, their demonstration really inspired me. Also, the surrounding gardens were absolutely stunning! The pictures don’t do it justice.
My favourite part of the garden, was discovering that there is such a thing as a “golden shower tree.”
The excursion was definitely one of my favourites, scenery-wise. Between the turquoise waters, never-ending skies, and smooth roads, I truly felt at peace.
We casually slowed down at one point, and Kenrick directed our attention toward the water. We were able to see the division between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get off the bus at this point, so I wasn’t able to get a quality photo.
Monkeying Around in St. Kitts
My most memorable moment on this tour was at one of the lookout points by the Atlantic Ocean. It was also a very costly destination. I was just about to start taking some Instagram-worthy shots when I got bombarded by a “salesman.”
Before I could even snap any pictures, he was already talking my ear off faster than Donald Trump posts on Twitter. He commented on my shoes, said that I must be the most beautiful girl in Canada, and then threw his monkey at me.
He then offered to take some pictures for me. Before I could even have a chance to think or speak for myself, my photo session had already ended. That’s when I found out I owed him $10. This guy must’ve gotten some bonus points from the CIA that day for being sneaky. He also has a serious chance of becoming an auctioneer. The speed of that guy is astonishing.
Also, I’m embarrassed that I totally fell for his scandalous tactics. Not proud.
We made a few more short stops for some photo ops. Although all of the islands had stunning views, for some reason, I felt most in awe at the stops we made here. It’s something that you’ll have to see for yourself. It’s so much better with the naked eye.
This destination is a huge must-see!
Also, flattery will cost you. Keep that in mind. BEWARE OF MEN TRYING TO GIVE YOU THEIR MONKEY!
