Please Note: My adventure in Barbados took place at the beginning of February 2019. This post has been revamped and revised to look awesome. For more escapades, check out our “Lifestyle” section.
Day Eight: Bridgetown, Barbados
As soon as the sun started peaking above the horizon, our ship got closer to Bridgetown, Barbados. I was surprised at how flat the island is as compared to the other ones. Their landscape is more of a savanna type rather than a tropical island. Regardless, it’s absolutely beautiful.
For those wishing to travel here, please note that wearing camouflage clothing is forbidden.
A fun story about Barbados. Apparently, my dad was here in the 70s and he wanted to make a quick stop at one of the hotels he stayed at. For nostalgia, right? No, he had forgotten his film and wanted to see if the lost and found still had it. You know… 40 years later.
Coast to Coast Bus Tour
Our day started off with the coast-to-coast bus tour. We had rum and beer at 10 a.m. Living the dream! I bet that about 50 of you just signed up for this tour.
We made a few picturesque stops after going through a million roundabouts! I felt like I was going in circles as often as someone who’s in their 20s and has no clue what they’re doing with their life… which actually sounds a lot like me. Oops.
Our bus driver, Cheryl, was one of the only two women drivers in the Barbados tour industry. I think that’s absolutely impressive! Our guide’s name was Roberta, and she was just a ray of sunshine! She always held up an umbrella at each of our stops, so we knew when it was time to leave. This woman even proudly held it up on a busy street to halt traffic so we could cross safely. Now that’s some Mary Poppins’ magic if I’ve ever seen it. She’s my hero for sure.
We were able to see so much of the island and take pictures at some stunning viewpoints. Since it’s currently the dry season, we even drove past a roaring red bush fire. It seems as if everyone down here always has a smile on their face. My theory is that it must be due to the fact that there’s a rum shop on every corner. It’s basically the equivalent of having Tim Horton’s littered all over Canada. For those non-Canadians, that’s a lot more than you can even begin to imagine.
This tour is definitely a must-see! And not just because of the alcohol at 10 a.m., but it’s a good selling point.
King Foodie on the Loose
We hopped back on the ship shortly before 4pm.
I noticed they had a Teatime up in the Oasis Café, so we decided to check it out. They had a nice selection of scones, cakes, sandwiches, and other baked goods. Little did I know that my dad, (King Foodie strikes again!), would become obsessed with it. There’s always an excuse to have another meal. We never ended up missing out on teatime for the entire remainder of the cruise. Considering we have dinner at 6pm, I seriously have no clue where my dad puts all his food and still has an appetite.
