Please Note: My adventure in St. Maarten took place at the end of January 2019. This post has been revamped and revised to look awesome. For more escapades, check out our “Lifestyle” section.
Day Five: Philipsburg, St. Maarten
Our second port was the breathtaking Philipsburg, St. Maarten. This island is one of my favourites mainly because the people are so friendly and the water is so picturesque. It’s almost as if the Kool Aid Man spilled his tender, loving, delicious insides all over the place and it’s absolutely beautiful.
As soon as we got off the ship, I turned around (insert drums here for dramatic effect) and there were not 1, not 2, but 4 cruise ships docked. “Crowded” was an understatement. It’s almost as if the entire population of Toronto is drunk and there’s only one McDonald’s open.
I definitely felt like everyone’s bubble was violated that day. RIP to my personal space. You will be missed.
A water taxi was available to take us from the port to the main land. This is where all the fun happens! If I remember correctly, it was $7 USD one way and $10 USD both ways.
Hopefully, you don’t get so intoxicated that you forget where you are. You’ll probably have to swim back. No judgement though, I’m sure it’s great exercise!
Shut Up and Take My Money!
Since we had already toured the island last May on board the MSC Seaside, it was basically just a leisurely shopping day.
I ended up with organic whole bean coffee, St. Maarten Magic Spice, and my beloved octopus mug. This mug was something I saw last May and really regret not getting. I went in and out of about 50 stores to find the damn thing. Much to my luck, it ended up being in the last store that I checked.
After a nice relaxing day of shopping, we hopped on the water taxi to head back to the ship.
Luckily, on this ride, I didn’t have to deal with an entire daycare of children, running around while the parents got drunk. Oh no, this time it was much more special. The song “Sweet Caroline” was blaring and all the old folks were singing along. All aboard the floating retirement home! I felt like I was looking at an ancient artifact museum or something.
The rest of the day ended up being a write off, and it was an early night. Since I woke up, I felt like I was coming down sick and I also started to lose my voice. That probably made my parents happy though, now that I’ve finally shut up for a while.
Day Five Is Complete
Yet another successful warm day. It really sucks I’m coming down sick, but at least I’m in my happy place. Tomorrow, we dock at St. Lucia.
Also, since we visited in 2018, I’ve also included some photos from that time as well.
