Please Note: My adventure in St. Lucia took place at the end of January 2019. This post has been revamped and revised to look awesome. For more escapades, check out our “Lifestyle” section.
Day Six: Castries, St. Lucia
This morning, I awoke to the beautiful, nonexistent sound of my voice. I’m sick and I want to scream! But I literally can’t, and I refuse to let it get me down. After all, I’m on vacation! And I’m also thousands of dollars in debt, so ain’t nobody got time for that.
Our third port was the stunning island of Castries, St. Lucia. For those of you wishing to travel to this magnificent island, please note that wearing camouflage clothing is forbidden. This is due to the fact that it is the police uniform.
Bright, Early, and Down to Business
The island tour was in the wee hours of the morning. I know this is an exaggeration; it was at a normal time. I’m just far from being a morning person.
That being said, though, I thoroughly enjoy the early and shorter tours, mainly so I didn’t have to skip any meals. I take after my dad, if you can’t already tell. He is a very wise man, if you ever get to meet him.
All Aboard!
This time, our tour bus was decently spacious. I was also lucky enough to get the seat by the door with unlimited leg room. Andrea, our guide, and Charlie, our bus driver, were both entertaining and informative. Charlie was equally as much of a tour guide. At one of our stops, he even busted out this huge map and told us more info than Encarta Encyclopedia could ever provide for us.
These two have definitely made some lasting memories for me. One of the most interesting facts I learned is that they brought over the mongoose to get rid of the snakes, but it ended up just going after the chickens.
Throughout the scenic drive, we saw so much local vegetation. The thriving land was filled with bananas, plantains, mangoes, and coconuts. It’s refreshing to be surrounded by so much lush greenery.
The only downside to this island is the fact that the winding streets are so narrow. Every car that comes towards you basically looks like a head on collision about to happen.
That didn’t stop us from making a surprise stop in the middle of the road, though.
At one point, Charlie gets off the bus and bolts across the street. He comes back with this fragrant bouquet. After it was passed around, he told us that it was bay leaf with citronella.
The rest of the day was spent eating, shopping, and lounging out. I wanted to soak in as much sunshine as I could before I went back to this thing they call Canadian winter.
Evening Delights
We set sail just around sunset. Being a part of the concierge class, we were invited to watch the boat depart that night from the helipad. Upon arrival, everyone was offered a complimentary glass of Champagne… except for me. I was offered a juice. No Forever 21 here. I am Forever 15 apparently.
The night ended with some delicious New York-style cheesecake with chocolate sauce. After dinner, we watched a fellow Canadian entertain us with some magic. Apparently 70% of the “cruisers” on the ship were Canadian. I’m sure you can imagine how stoked the audience was to see Ryan Joyce perform. These smart Canucks definitely have the right idea about escaping winter.
I’ll Be Back Again Someday to St. Lucia
My experience in St. Lucia was definitely a positive one. It felt amazing to breathe in the island air, or at least attempt to do so. I couldn’t really breathe because I was sick. Out of all the islands, this was definitely one of the greenest. If you’re blessed enough to have a tour with Andrea and Charlie, you’ll have a phenomenal time!
St. Lucia would love to see you! Start planning your adventure today.
