Please Note: My adventure onboard the Celebrity Summit took place at the end of January 2019. This post has been revamped and revised to look awesome. For more escapades, check out our “Lifestyle” section.
Day Three: San Juan and Boarding Celebrity Summit
Based on our previous success, our taste buds decided to go to Bajuice again. Their menu has a little something for everybody.
My breakfast consisted of homemade bread, eggs fresh from the hen, and perfectly seasoned sweet potatoes. My cappuccino was top quality and tasted as if it was freshly harvested by Jesus.
After breakfast, my dad found out the hard way that his sunscreen literally turns his skin pure white. Off we went to find the nearest drugstore. We ended up getting lost because we took a slight detour. Why? My dad insisted on heading to the lagoon again so we could get another 30 pictures of the same pelican.
Now was the prime time to see a bunch of signs that made no sense and get a few photos in too. We saw a bit of hurricane damage, and if there’s ever a tsunami, at least we know where the evacuation route is.
Eventually, we found our way back to the main street, and Walgreens was in sight. My dad got his sunscreen and he was happy that he wouldn’t have to look like a KKK enthusiast for the entire cruise.
The fun story about this sunscreen We actually spent a good chunk of time at Walgreen’s. My dad wanted my opinion on which one was best for him. After giving him four awesome recommendations, he went with a completely different one. He ended up getting his karma for wasting my time. The sunscreen was seized at the airport because he forgot it in his carryon.
It’s Time to Head to the Ship
At this point, there weren’t really many adventure options since we could already board the ship at noon.
The hotel called us a “taxi”, which was basically just a soccer mom van, and we crammed ourselves in there with about eight other people. Thankfully, that claustrophobic circus didn’t last long, and before I knew it, the ship was in sight… and also an insanely long lineup of people. It makes an LA nightclub look tame.
We dropped off our luggage and got our mugshots taken for the ship card. We were also interrogated to make sure we wouldn’t contaminate the ship with Ebola. I give them huge kudos though, as the process was actually fairly smooth and straightforward considering the number of people.
All Aboard the Celebrity Summit!
Upon entry, they basically throw free champagne at you (kids included), and all the vultures flock to you so they can sell you their “special” drink package. Unfortunately, our rooms weren’t ready yet, so we wandered around aimlessly while waiting to go to our concierge lunch. I definitely felt like a celebrity… haha see what I did there?
After our lunch, the rooms were available! We were greeted by our room attendant, Nengah, which I thought was a really nice touch. He did an amazing job, by the way! Absolutely outstanding!
The rest of the day wasn’t really worth mentioning. We unpacked, attended a mandatory safety meeting, and watched our stress sail away. (I’m pro at corny jokes.)
I Like to Eat, Eat, Eat
Our fixed dinner was every night at 6 pm in the Cosmopolitan Restaurant.
My dessert that night was crafted from the heavens. It was two of my all-time favourite flavours meshed together in one glorious, symphonic pile. Ladies and gentlemen, this Chocolate Cherry Trifle was out of this world. The waiter didn’t even have a chance to speak as I already made my decision.
Winding Down for the Evening
After dinner, we decided to check out the show at the theatre. Each night was different. Tonight, we were able to enjoy the comedy of Jeff Nease. I still managed to have a few laughs and feel at ease despite being half asleep at this point,
At this moment, nothing beat a nice, warm cup of tea to relax. We scoped out the selection at the buffet and they had at least 15 varieties of organic tea. As soon as I noticed that there was also honey and sliced lemons available, I screamed like a typical white girl at Starbucks when the Pumpkin Spice Latte comes out. Tea time is in session!
It was surprising to see the number of people that were indulging in late-night coffee. However, it was really nice to sip on my hot drink while the smell of Lavazza coffee filled the air. It’s definitely one of my favourite scents.
What’s Next?
The first day on board the Celebrity Summit was a success! Now onward to the US Virgin Islands!
