Try a savory breakfast for a change or whip up the best hangover cure. This Ham and Swiss Breakfast Sandwich always hits the spot. No long lineups or drive-throughs are required.

Ham and Swiss Breakfast Sandwich
Ingredients
- 1 everything bagel (You can use any kind of bagel, a croissant, or two slices of any type of bread.)
- 1-2 slices honey ham
- 1-2 slices swiss cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 slice tomato (optional)
Instructions
- Slice the bagel in half if it isn't already. Throw it on a baking sheet. If you're feeling extra adventurous, try tossing your bagel from across the kitchen onto the baking sheet. Hopefully, it doesn't land on the floor, or you're back to square one.
- Place 1-2 slices of ham on half the bagel. On the other half, place 1-2 slices of Swiss cheese.
- Bake the sandwich in the oven at 350°F for 5-10 minutes or until it's melted and warm. You can also pop it in the toaster oven. Keep an eye on it so it doesn't overbake or get too crazy.
- While the sandwich is getting nice and toasty, prepare your eggs. I love making a fried egg (over easy or over hard), but you can also scramble it.
- Now it's time to assemble the sandwich. Stick the egg on top of the ham, add the tomato slice if you're using it, and close it up.
Notes
- If you’re feeling extra fancy and want a pop of colour, add a slice of tomato in the middle.
- This recipe uses honey ham and Swiss cheese, but don’t feel obligated to stick to those. You can try other combinations of lunch meats and cheeses.
- If you don’t have a bagel, two pieces of bread work just as well. As an added bonus, you can cut your sandwich into triangles once it’s done. We all know triangle sandwiches are superior and taste better than their rectangle counterparts.
- Speaking of bread, a croissant also works really well. You’ll just have to cut up the ingredients a bit more to make sure it all fits.

Variations for Ham and Swiss Breakfast Sandwich
- Dress it up! Add a slice of tomato, some avocado, bell pepper, and/or spinach for a pop of colour
- Add some bacon or use a sausage patty for a meatier option
- Try a different type of bread. Use a croissant, two pieces of toast, or even a wrap
- Use a different type of cheese. Shredded or sliced works best. Experiment with Monterey Jack, Cheddar, American, Pepper Jack, Havarti, Provolone, or Fontina.
- Swap out the ham for another sliced meat. Turkey or chicken makes a phenomenal substitution.
Substitutions and Dietary Preferences
- For a gluten free version, use a gluten free bagel, bread, or wrap. My current favourite is The Grain Escape bread.
- For a vegan or egg free version, you can omit the egg or purchase a vegan scrambled egg substitute.
